iView MediaPro Automator Actions 1.x

I’ve been working on adding to the collection of actions over the past week. I won’t have time to work on them for the next 10 days or so but I should have the 1.1 release of the actions available for mid-July. In addition to the actions already available, I’ve also got the following written so far

  • Set Categories For iView MediaPro Items
  • Set Event Date For iView MediaPro Items
  • Set Keywords For iView MediaPro Items
  • Set Orientation For iView MediaPro Items
  • Set People For iView MediaPro Items

These are pretty straightforward. The “event date” action will set the date from the EXIF capture date, finder creation/modification date or a manual entry.

The existing “Import Files To iView MediaPro Catalog” has been modified to allow items to be imported into a new catalog, if required. I’ve also made numerous minor cleanups and tweaks to the other existing actions.

I’m currently working on a “Get iView MediaPro Item Information” action which will allow information to be extracted from the catalog about various media items and formatted in various ways. I’m hoping to make this action the root of a set of actions that’ll allow iView and Photoshop to communicate metadata in a slightly more straightforward and granular way than using the “iView” sync mechanism.

If you have any action requests for 1.1, send them my way. I don’t promise to tackle ‘em all but if I can add something with a reasonable amount of effort, I’ll try to.

Tiger And Automator Part II

I’m still working my way through some of the more idiosyncratic aspects of the current Automator development environment but it’s starting to look pretty good so far.

This is what MetaSync looks like if you implement it as Automator actions.

The first action returns the items that are currently selected in the “TIFF” catalog. The second action is where the guts of MetaSync take place - the image item names are mapped as specified and then a lookup is performed in the “Raw” catalog. If it finds a match, the annotations for the raw file are copied to the finished TIFF catalog. The “Copy Annotations” action currently returns a list of the images from the source catalog that matched. This means the final action can label them so I know what’s been converted.

This is an example of my basic image import workflow. It’ll get added to fairly soon but it seems to work at the moment.

I should have the actions polished up and ready for release in a few days.

Tiger And Automator

I’ve been working for the past week or so on some Automator actions for iView MediaPro. Most of the Applescript Studio applications that I use for managing my image workflow seem to lend themselves to the migration.

It’s not all roses and chocolates tho’. The Apple documention for Automator is frustratingly incomplete and I’ve found myself reverse-engineering XML config files for the iPhoto actions in order to work out how to get the user-interface for my homebrew actions to be as polished as the Apple ones.

However, once I’ve got the first cut of actions finished, I’ll post them for downloads. The basic list of actions so far are

  • Import Files To MediaPro Catalog
  • New MediaPro Catalog
  • Get Selected MediaPro Items
  • Copy Metadata For MediaPro Items
  • Get Metadata For MediaPro Items
  • Set Metadata For MediaPro Items
  • Label MediaPro Items

If you’re interested in these, drop me some email and I’ll let you know when they’re finished.
